Max Pacioretty trade rumors leads to Twitter spat between two reporters
Almost from the moment Frank Seravalli mentioned that the Golden Knights were “doubling down” their efforts to trade Max Pacioretty, there were other reports downplaying it. So what is going on? Is Vegas looking to move the 32 year-old scoring forward or not?
Vegas Golden Knights “exploring” the market
The first contradictory report came from Jesse Granger who covers Vegas for The Athletic. In essence he says the Knights are just testing the market.
To be clear, this doesn’t mean Vegas could trade three of its star players. From the information I’ve gathered, it seems much more likely that general manager Kelly McCrimmon is simply testing the trade market following a period without much movement, with the 2021 NHL season finally appearing on the horizon.

Additionally, ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski tweeted out that his sources said he doesn’t “believe he’s in play.” This led to a contentious Twitter beef between him and Frank Seravalli.
Frank Seravalli takes exception to “fact-check” of his reporting

“One problem, Greg,” Seravalli began his response. “My report wasn’t about Pacioretty’s NTC, or the difficulty of a deal, and it didn’t include any destinations. Have the Golden Knights been trying to trade Max Pacioretty? The answer to that is yes. That’s the report. That’s it.”
Seravalli didn’t stop there as he blasted Wyshynski for trying to act like a CNN Fact-Checker. “Bring it on,” he retorted. “We can start with your divisional alignment, which was wrong from jump street – and we’re not talking about the Flyers omission.”
