Dallas Stars COVID pause continues; Sunday vs. Coyotes postponed

The Dallas Stars will not be ready to play Sunday at the Arizona Coyotes as their COVID-19 outbreak continues.

The NHL announced Thursday it was postponing Dallas vs. Arizona, the latest game to be affected by health and safety protocol.

The Stars were an atypically healthy team just before the NHL’s extended holiday pause. They last played on Dec. 20, a 7-4 win over the Minnesota Wild.

Defenseman Jani Hakanpaa became the first Star to enter COVID-19 protocol all season on Dec. 24. Since then, the list has grown to 11 players and three staff members in protocol, per the club.

Two Dallas games against the Colorado Avalanche this week were called off — Dec. 29 and 31 — before the Arizona game was also affected.

“Honestly, you just have to find a way to deal with it,” Stars general manager Jim Nill told reporters on Wednesday. “We’ve done it in the past, and we’ll do it again. I believe the players and coaches are very focused on doing whatever is necessary.”
