Cap? What Cap! Tampa Bay Lightning trade for David Savard in 3-way deal with Blue Jackets and Red Wings
Credit where credit is due to Elliotte Friedman. He called this one when he wrote the Lightning were a stealth team to land David Savard from the Blue Jackets. Upon reading it I was scratching my head trying to figure how they could make it work cap wise – but here we are.
Tampa: Still think the Lightning are a stealth team on David Savard.

Tampa Bay Lightning land a top trade bait candidate in David Savard
David Savard is a 30 year-old righty defenseman that will be a UFA this summer. His cap hit this season is $4.25 million but that didn’t scare the cap strapped Lightning off. The 6-2 defender has 6 points in 40 games this season; but Tampa isn’t getting him for offense. They wanted a gritty rearguard to shut other team’s top players down. He’s considered one the better shot blockers in the league and will bolster an already good Lightning defense.

We will update the entire trade when finalized. However, Savard was informed he’s been moved to Tampa.
