Canadiens to expose Shea Weber in expansion draft as injuries threaten his career

Reports late this evening indicate the Montreal Canadiens will expose their captain Shea Weber in the Seattle expansion draft. Based on the latest medical reports, Weber could be out for all of next season.

Teams must submit their protected lists by Saturday.

Shea Weber’s career in jeopardy

The Habs stalwart on the blue-line will be 36 years old in August and is feeling every singe one of the 1000+ games he’s played. At this time the lingering injuries to his surgically repaired foot and ankle are threatening his career.

Weber’s medical history creates a very legitimate case for him to go on long-term injured reserve if he cannot play again. But the league must make that determination, and the process is underway. Weber, agent Kevin Epp, the Canadiens, the NHL and NHLPA declined to comment.

Shea Weber has played 1038 regular season games. He’s registered 589 points and 714 PIM in those contests. The hard hitting defenseman has also picked up 42 points in 97 playoff games.
